Our team
Lauren Wheeler
Lauren was raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was fortunate to have parents from the United States and Trinidad Tobago. This balance upbringing has shaped her worldview to create this company. The Wheeler family mantra states “we must do the best you can at all times despite the circumstances.” This is the reason Lauren name the company Hakuna Matata Services i.e. “No Worries - No Problems.” Lauren upbringing in North Minneapolis allowed to gain life knowledge that assisted her to pursue academic excellence. The African proverb “It takes a village to raise a child” resonated that she has the community blessings. Lauren’s core values are social justice and focuses on having partners that are racially conscious and supports the community that we serve. We will treat you like the family you wish you had and we stand by our motto. In order to serve you well all of us must be very knowledgeable and have lived these personal life experiences. Lauren is vested in the community and has experience with every sector of the business. Hakuna Matata Services began in 2012 Inspires to have longevity like the Baobab trees.
Jeremy Sherief
Jeremy is a professional soccer player that has been blessed with the opportunity to play professionally for over 10 years throughout Africa and Europe. Jeremy speaks several languages he is fluent in Gola, Liberian Kreyol, Turkish, and English. In addition, being proficient in Arabic. Jeremy has a wealth of knowledge in physical fitness and is passionate about teaching his gifts to others to benefit their health and wellbeing. Jeremy has facilitated fitness camps by teaching fun innovating activities and various soccer circuit training drills to children, teens and adults. As a guest trainer, he truly enjoys going to K-12 classrooms telling student’s if they put in the work they can achieve anything.
Brian Osinde
Brian, a proud Kenyan has developed his career centered around business and leadership. Earning his bachelors in International Business Administration and Management and currently receiving his MSc in Information Technology and Data Science, he has found a love for knowledge and sharing it. Brian is enthusiastic about teaching and mentoring individuals to become leaders and stand for their abilities and beliefs. He inspires young children through coaching soccer academies, not only teaching them to be athletes but to have belief in the game they are playing and learn skills beyond the field, as an ex-pro soccer player. Brian has founded a Children’s Right Advocacy with his brothers in Kenya and strives to teach, innovate, and solve complex problems that many young Kenyans face while growing up. Brian is multilingual and is proficient in English, Kiswahili, and Chinese Mandarin. Brian is a bright individual who brings a strong and different insight to the table that is valuable for growth and challenging the mind
Keisha Davis
Keisha Davis was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN. She is married to her high school sweetheart where, together, they are raising 3 beautiful and intelligent children. She has always loved teaching and loving on children since she was a teen. Now, she is an administrator at an elementary school where she lives out her life’s purpose of developing, coaching and guiding adults and scholars into more socially and racially conscious people who will make a positive impact and change in our world. She believes that together, we are better and lives her life trying to do just that every day. Keisha has hosted and supported multiple events where family, friends and community members have requested her to help with their most personal of situations. They trusted her to be there in their time of need, knowing she would get the job to their expectations. Keisha Davis is the family you wish you had. Hakuna Matata!
Peter Komlah Lokosu Gaglozu
Peter is a writer that has directed multiple musical plays; he has a wealth of knowledge with the arts. Peter is a professional drummer and percussionist, traditional West African dancer, and spoken word artist. Peter speaks several languages and has taught language acquisition to young people and older individuals in English, Twi, Ewe, and Ga. Peter is determined to teach young people the history and roots of Ghanaian culture to empower everyone particularly African-Americans on the Year of Return back home to the Motherland. Peter has a way of connecting with school-age children and adults due to his zeal to work well and always ready to take up any challenges. Peter has the ability to deal with people from different backgrounds around the world and can easily fit into any environment due to his great interpersonal communication skills.
Albert McGee
Albert was born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas and relocated to Minneapolis to attend the undergraduate school at the University of Minnesota. Albert currently works as an Equity and Inclusion Specialist for Edina Public Schools. He enjoys assisting students and families in the Edina school district to have an equitable and inclusive experience within this district. It should not be a necessity to use my expertise in 2020. However, America has still have not learned since the post-slavery of 400 years. Albert's intention is to be a valuable resource for Hakuna Matata Services. He has taught English and Math in special education classes in Kansas City, Kansas. Worked at the Bridge for Youth in Minneapolis, MN. Held the position of Cultural Liaison and Student learning advocate in the Osseo School district for 10 years and the Robbinsdale school district for 3 years. In his spear time, he enjoys coaching various sports and teaching chess
Deno Rowe
Born in Jamaica and emigrating to the US almost a decade ago, Deno Rowe is the K. Leroy Irvis Fellow in the School of Education as well as a proud scholar in the Leadership in
Neurodevelopmental Disabilities and Related Disorders, LEND program. At the University of Pittsburgh, Deno is currently entering his second year as a doctoral candidate pursuing the Doctor of Education in Special Education. With specific concentration in vocational rehabilitation program administration, Deno’s continued research has sought to
explore how the intersecting identities of race, gender and among others, socioeconomic status, have resulted in largely disparate educational and career outcomes for adults with disabilities who are also Black, LatinX and Indigenous.
Deno brings over 8 years of elementary teaching and adult vocational rehabilitation training expertise to Hakuna Matata Services. With keen interest in helping teens and young adults
understand how to view individuals with disabilities using a person first perspective, serving through Hakuna Matata positions Deno to engage students in critical conversations around disability, diversity, equity and justice in their daily workspace. Having been involved in mentoring young adults with disabilities and mental health diagnoses for a number of years, Deno is positioned to bring these skills to Hakuna Matata as we work to connect teens and adults to out of school programs and transition services.
